Verdicts delivered for banned schools at National Football Championship 2023.

Verdicts delivered for banned schools at National Football Championship 2023.

The schools that faced bans from USSSA activities during the National Boys Football Championship at Nyakasura School in Kabarole, May 2023, received their verdicts on January 4, 2024.

The disciplinary committee at Nyakasura School heard appeals from schools initially banned from all USSSA activities. Despite one school facing a permanent ban, others were granted reprieves based on compelling evidence presented to the appeals committee.

The appeals committee, chaired by Reverend Canon Duncans Mugumya (Commissioner Physical Education and Sports, Ministry of Education and Sports), and vice-chaired by Brother Augustune Mugabo (President, Association of Secondary School Headteachers of Uganda – ASSHU), played a crucial role in the review process. Additional committee members included Christopher Banage Mugisha (CEO USSSA), Patrick Okanya (Emeritus), and Grace Abalo (Senior Education Officer,Ministry of Education and Sports ).

Tororo Town College, grappling with five overaged players, faced a permanent ban from USSSA activities. Despite presenting only two disputed students during the appeals process, the school remains banned for 365 days while all the five students are banned from USSSA activities.

Kawempe Royal College found itself banned after a student submitted three different pass slips, each with identical names and results but different dates of birth. The school will face a year-long ban from USSSA activities while the student is banned from any USSSA activities.

Welden High School, Nganwa High School, Royal Giant High School Mityana, and Lammineas, Kyotera (Fresh Dairy Secondary Games in Mbarara) were initially banned due to inconsistencies in pass slips. However, diligent representatives from each school provided substantial evidence to refute any forgery claims, resulting in their clearance to participate in USSSA activities in 2024. Unfortunately, the students involved in these cases remain banned from USSSA games.
