Morogoro, Tanzania – 16th August 2026 – The 23rd edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games has received a major boost following a sponsorship of USD 90,000 from the East African Development Bank (EADB). The games, currently taking place in Morogoro, Tanzania, have attracted 413 teams and 5,548 participants from across East Africa competing in 51 sporting disciplines, making it one of the largest school sports competitions on the continent.
Speaking during the official opening ceremony, EADB Country Manager Mr. Stephen Wambura reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to investing in young people through sports, recognizing the role of school competitions in developing talent, leadership, discipline, and regional integration.
“While our core mandate is financing development projects across key sectors of the economy, we recognize that sustainable development also means investing in people, especially young people who represent the future of our region. Through this partnership with FEASSA, we are supporting the development of the next generation of East African leaders,” Mr. Wambura said.

The sponsorship will support the production of medals and trophies, as well as the provision of playing kits for finalists across various disciplines.
Uganda, the defending overall champions, has once again fielded the largest delegation at the games, comprising 130 teams and 1,660 participants across the Secondary Schools, Primary Schools, and Special Needs Education (SNE) categories. Team Uganda enters the championship determined to defend the overall title it has won for the past five consecutive editions.
In football, Uganda’s challenge is led by established powerhouses including St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende, Amus College School, Kyadondo Secondary School, and Bukedea Comprehensive School in the boys’ category. The girls’ competition features strong contenders such as Rines Secondary School, Amus College School, Boni Consili Girls Vocational and Secondary School, and Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA).
Uganda is also expected to make a strong impact in volleyball, where schools such as Bukedea Comprehensive School, Namugongo Vocational and Secondary School, and St. Jerome Secondary School Ndama are representing the country in the boys’ category, while Seroma Christian High School and Katikamu SDA Secondary School lead Uganda’s challenge in the girls’ division.
In basketball, one of Uganda’s traditionally dominant sports, schools including St Michael High School, St Cyprian High School, and Amus College School are competing in the boys’ 5×5 category, while St Mary’s Kitende, Nabisunsa Girls School, and St Noa Girls Secondary School Zzana are expected to spearhead Uganda’s quest for regional honors in the girls’ competition.
The FEASSA Games continue to provide a vital platform for talent identification, youth development, and regional integration among East African nations. The championship runs until 22nd August 2026, with thousands of young athletes competing for medals, titles, and national pride.
Team Uganda remains focused on maintaining its regional dominance and securing a historic sixth consecutive overall FEASSA title.
