Uganda’s representatives, Amus College, have booked a place in the final of the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship – CECAFA Qualifiers after an impressive run in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Ugandan Boys’ team secured their place in Saturday’s final after overcoming Tanzania 3-1 in the semi-final on Friday, maintaining their unbeaten record in the competition.
Amus College had earlier enjoyed a strong group-stage campaign, recording two victories and a draw. They opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over South Sudan before defeating Burundi 3-0. They then completed the group stage with a goalless draw against Somalia.
The results saw Uganda finish the group stage unbeaten and advance to the semi-finals, where they produced another strong performance against Tanzania to secure a 3-1 victory.
The Boys’ team will now play in the final on Saturday afternoon, with the opportunity to secure the CECAFA regional title and earn a place at the continental stage of the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship.
The Girls’ team also progressed from the group stage after an equally impressive start. Amus College defeated Burundi 3-0, edged hosts Rwanda 1-0 and completed the group stage with a 2-0 victory over South Sudan.
However, their run to the final came to an end in the semi-finals after a 2-0 defeat to Tanzania.
The Girls will now turn their attention to the third-place playoff on Saturday afternoon, where they will look to finish the tournament on the podium.
The 2026 CECAFA qualifiers are being held in Kigali from September 3–5, with the top teams earning the opportunity to represent the region at the CAF African Schools Football Championship continental stage.
Amus College are representing Uganda in both the Boys’ and Girls’ categories after winning the respective national titles at the USSSA National Championships in Gulu earlier this year.
With the Boys already through to the final and the Girls competing for bronze, Uganda remains firmly in contention for silverware as the Kigali qualifiers enter their final day.
Final Fixtures
The girls will take on Rwanda in the third place play off at 10 AM EAT while the boys will also play Rwanda in the in final at 1PM EAT all games to be played at Kigali Pele Stadium
