Amus College School has secured a dramatic place in the final of the National Secondary Schools Football Boys U20 Championship 2026 after defeating St. Mary’s Kitende 4-1 in a penalty shootout following a tense 0-0 draw in normal time at Dr Obote I pitch in Lira City.
The highly anticipated semi-final clash lived up to expectations as both schools showcased tactical discipline, defensive resilience, and determination in front of an energetic crowd.
Despite several promising attacking moments from either side, neither team managed to break the deadlock during regulation time.
St. Mary’s Kitende, renowned for their dominance in secondary school football, controlled possession for long spells and looked dangerous in transition.
Their midfield dictated the pace of the game, while the defense remained composed whenever Amus threatened on the counterattack.
Amus College School, one of the tournament’s standout teams and the defending champions of the FEASSA Games held in Kakamega, Kenya, in 2026, matched Kitende’s intensity throughout the encounter.
The Eastern Uganda side displayed excellent organization at the back and confidence going forward, frustrating Kitende’s attackers with disciplined defending and quick recoveries.
The first half produced limited clear-cut chances as both teams approached the game cautiously, fully aware of the high stakes involved.
Kitende attempted to stretch play through the wings, but Amus remained compact and difficult to break down.In the second half, the intensity increased as both sides pushed for a decisive goal.
Kitende came close on several occasions, forcing crucial saves from the Amus goalkeeper, while Amus also threatened through swift counterattacks that kept Kitende’s defense alert.After the final whistle confirmed a goalless draw, the match was decided by penalties.
Amus College School held their nerve brilliantly in the shootout, converting all four of their penalties while keeping Kitende with one goal to seal a commanding 4-1 victory.
