The 23rd FEASSA Games were held in Morogoro, Tanzania, from 12 to 22 August 2026, with Uganda entering the championship with a strong and diverse delegation drawn from across the country. Team Uganda comprised 127 teams from 67 schools, including secondary schools, primary schools and SNE institutions, with 1,536 student participants – 1,304 secondary-school students, 160 primary pupils and 72 SNE participants – alongside coaches, team officials and administrators.
Uganda finished second overall at the 23rd edition of the Federation of East African Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games held in Morogoro, Tanzania, after a strong showing across secondary schools, primary schools and Special Needs Education (SNE) categories.
According to the official final ranking, Uganda finished second in the secondary schools competition with 18 gold medals, 22 silver medals and 16 bronze medals, giving the country a total of 56 medals. Kenya topped the secondary medal standings with 20 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals. Tanzania followed Uganda with four gold, four silver and nine bronze medals, while Rwanda collected one gold, one silver and five bronze medals.
At primary level, Uganda collected two gold medals, no silver medals and six bronze medals, finishing fourth with eight medals overall. Kenya topped the primary standings with six gold, six silver and four bronze medals, followed by Rwanda and Tanzania.
In the SNE category, Uganda won one bronze medal but no gold or silver medals. Tanzania topped the SNE medal table with 10 gold, three silver and seven bronze medals, while Kenya had six gold, 13 silver and eight bronze medals.
Overall, Uganda finished second at the 2026 FEASSA Games with 20 gold medals, 22 silver medals and 23 bronze medals, for a total of 65 medals. Kenya emerged overall champions with 32 gold, 34 silver and 24 bronze medals, while Tanzania finished third with 16 gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze medals. Rwanda had four gold, one silver and seven bronze medals, while Burundi did not register a medal.
Uganda’s 18 secondary-school gold medals came from a broad range of disciplines, underlining the country’s depth beyond the traditional team sports. St. Mary’s Kitende and Rines Secondary School delivered gold in boys’ and girls’ football respectively, while Kitende also won girls’ basketball 5×5 and netball. Seroma Christian High School claimed girls’ basketball 3×3, Panyadoli won girls’ softball, Namugongo Vocational School won boys’ volleyball and Gombe Secondary won girls’ handball.
Uganda also dominated several individual and racket sports. Team Uganda won both boys’ and girls’ badminton and swimming titles, Kibuli SS won both boys’ and girls’ table tennis, while Kibuli Secondary also claimed boys’ lawn tennis. Wampeewo won girls’ Scrabble, Standard High School Zzana won girls’ beach soccer and Bukedea Comprehensive won boys’ beach volleyball.

The FEASSA Games brought together some of the finest secondary school athletes from across East Africa, with outstanding individual performances earning recognition in 43 different sporting categories. The MVP awards reflected the depth of talent across the region, with athletes from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda emerging as the most valuable players in their respective disciplines.
Kenya led the Secondary Schools’ MVP standings with 21 awards, followed by Uganda with 18. Tanzania produced three MVPs, while Rwanda had one. The distribution highlights the strong .sporting competitiveness of East African secondary schools and the impressive talent showcased throughout the games.
