FEASSA RELEASES 2026 QUARTERS SLOTS AND SCHEDULE FOR MOROGORO CHAMPIONSHIP

MOROGORO, TANZANIA – The Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) has released the official qualification slots and championship schedule for the 2026 FEASSA Games, set for 12th – 23rd August 2026 in Morogoro, Tanzania.

The document outlines slots for Secondary School Teams, Primary School Teams, and Special Needs Education (SNE) across more than 25 sports disciplines.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS: 22 SPORTS ON THE CARD

The secondary category will feature the biggest contingent, with 22 disciplines including traditional team sports and emerging games.

Football/Soccer leads with the largest team allocation: 4 slots for both girls and boys, with each team carrying 20 players.

Other major team sports include:

  • Volleyball: 3 slots each, 14 players per team
  • Netball: 4 slots for girls only, 14 players per team
  • Handball, Hockey, Basketball 3×3, Basketball 5×5, Rugby 7s, Rugby 15s, Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball, Lacrosse, Cricket, Baseball & Softball: 3 slots each for boys and girls

Individual and racquet sports also feature:

  • Athletics: 1 slot each, 20 athletes per team
  • Cross Country: 1 slot each, 6 athletes per team
  • Swimming: 1 slot each, 20 swimmers per team
  • Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Chess, Scrabble: 3 slots each with team sizes of 3-6 players

Rugby 15s has the largest squad size with 25 players per team for both boys and girls.

SPECIAL NEEDS EDUCATION (SNE) – JUNIOR & SENIOR

FEASSA has allocated slots for 4 SNE disciplines to promote inclusivity:

  1. Goal Ball: 2 slots each, 6 players per team
  2. Show Down: 2 slots each, 6 players per team
  3. Sitting Volleyball: 2 slots each, 12 players per team
  4. Hi Soccer: 2 slots each, 20 players per team

PRIMARY SCHOOLS: 10 DISCIPLINES

The primary category will compete in 10 sports, with 2 slots each for boys and girls in all disciplines.

Football leads with 20 players per team, followed by Volleyball, Netball, Handball, and Basketball with 12-14 players per team.
Athletics will have 15 athletes per team, while Cross Country, Scrabble, Chess and Baseball will field smaller teams of 6-12 players.

Teams are expected to arrive on the 12th, with 9 days of action from 13th to 21st August. Departure is scheduled for 22nd August, with the championship officially closing on 23rd August.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR MEMBER COUNTRIES

With the quarters and schedule now confirmed, National School Sports Associations across East Africa will begin their national and regional qualification processes to fill the allocated slots ahead of August.

The Morogoro edition is expected to be one of the biggest FEASSA championships yet, bringing together thousands of student-athletes from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan.
