Amus College School has capped a remarkable campaign at the CAF African Schools Football Championship – CECAFA Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda, with the Boys’ team crowned regional champions and the Girls’ team securing a bronze medal for Uganda.
Representing Uganda in both categories, Amus College produced an impressive campaign throughout the championship, with both teams progressing from the group stages to the knockout rounds and ultimately finishing on the podium.
The Boys’ team completed a memorable tournament by defeating hosts Rwanda 1-0 in the final to claim the CECAFA regional title.
The victory saw Amus College crowned champions of the boys’ competition and earned the Ugandan side US$100,000 in prize money.
The Girls’ team also delivered a strong performance, securing bronze after defeating Rwanda 2-0 in the third-place playoff.
Their victory ensured Uganda finished the championship with podium finishes in both categories, with the Girls’ team receiving US$50,000 for their third-place finish.
Uganda’s impressive campaign was further highlighted by a collection of individual and team accolades presented at the conclusion of the championship.
In the Girls’ category, Uganda received the Fair Play Award in recognition of the team’s discipline, sportsmanship and conduct throughout the competition.
The Boys’ team also dominated the individual awards, claiming three of the major honours.
Okwi Kennedy was named the Boys’ Top Scorer, while Mukasa Junior Stuart received the Best Goalkeeper award. Mawanda Vincent Kiza completed Uganda’s individual haul after being crowned the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).

The double podium finish marks a significant achievement for Amus College and Ugandan schools football, with the Boys’ team emerging as CECAFA champions and the Girls’ team securing a well-deserved bronze medal.
The success also brought substantial recognition and reward, with Amus College collecting US$150,000 in combined prize money across the two categories, in addition to the Fair Play Award and three major individual honours in the Boys’ competition.
Beyond the trophies and prize money, the championship provided Uganda’s young footballers with valuable exposure and experience on the regional stage, allowing them to compete against some of the best emerging school football talent in the CECAFA region.
Amus College’s campaign in Kigali therefore stands as another important milestone in Uganda’s schools football development, demonstrating the growing quality, competitiveness and depth of talent within the country’s school football system.
For Amus College, the championship ends on a high note the Boys returning home as CECAFA champions, the Girls with a bronze medal, and Uganda celebrating a remarkable collection of team and individual honours.
