Seroma Hosts Grand Opening of 2026 USSSA Ball Games I in Mukono

The 2026 USSSA Ball Games I were officially opened today at Seroma Christian High School in Mukono, with a strong call for discipline, integrity, and excellence in school sports.

The colorful ceremony was presided over by the Chief Guest, Rev. Bishop Hannington Mutebi, who was flanked by the Commissioner for Physical Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Rev. Canon Duncan Mugumya.

Also in attendance were officials from the National Council of Sports, ASSHU President Hajjat Zulaika, and several head teachers from participating schools.
In his remarks, Bishop Mutebi emphasized the vital role sports play in shaping students beyond the field of play.

“As we participate in sports, we learn many things like discipline, how to relate with others, confidence, and it offers personal growth.

Bishop Hannington Mutebi was the chief guest.

When we talk about physical sports, doctors emphasize that if you want to keep good health, make sure you exercise,” he said.

He further encouraged participants to take advantage of the platform to unlock greater opportunities.
“A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him to sit with great men and women. For example, if you excel here, you go to Tanzania (FEASSA), then to Africa and later to the world,” he added.

The Commissioner for Physical Education, Rev. Canon Duncan Mugumya, reaffirmed government support for school sports, noting that the Ball Games are officially recognized in the Ministry’s calendar.

“I want to inform you that this activity is officially in the Ministry of Education and Sports calendar, and to the officials, I encourage you to do the right thing at the right time and with the right intentions. When you do that, God in heaven will also be happy,” he stated.

Seroma Christian High School Resident Director, Amelia Kyambadde, expressed gratitude to partner institutions that supported the hosting of the games by offering facilities. These include Uganda Christian University (UCU), Our Lady of Africa, Seeta University, Seeta High School, and Hilton.

This year’s championship has attracted a total of 6,558 athletes competing across 11 different sports disciplines, making it one of the largest editions of the USSSA Ball Games I.

The competition is expected to run over several days, bringing together top school talent from across the country in a celebration of sportsmanship, talent, and unity.
