USSSA meets Federations ahead of the inaugural Capacity Building Program

Representatives from several sports Federations have this morning held a meeting at the GNS plaza to plan the inaugural Capacity building by USSSA.

During a meeting chaired by Mr. Okanya Patrick, President Emeritus, standing for Justus Mugisha alongside CEO Christopher Mugisha Banage acknowledged that everyone is here to learn from the other.

USSSA had received 756 applications by the 30th November from all over the country with football coaching and refereeing having the highest number of applicants at 331.

  • ‘A number of people have expressed fear that their work is being taken over but there is no need to worry because the instructors are to come from federations and not USSSA’.

Mr. Christopher Mugisha Banage, the CEO USSSA informed the members in attendance that the project is supported by the Ministry of Education and Sports therefore everyone should welcome it for its success.

‘The program is not tailor made for USSSA because we are using manuals designed by the respective federations as well as practical sessions hence its authenticity as certificates will be awarded by the respective Federations.’

The program kicks off on 10th December to 17th December 2022 and all participants will reside at Kibuli Secondary School during this period while other courses will be held in January 2023 to allow participants chose a favourable time amid a busy schedule.

The football course will be conducted in 4 different regions due to the high number of applicants that applied across the country namely, Kampala (Kibuli SS, Mbarara (Mbarara High School), Lira (Dr. Obote College, Boroboro) and Bukedea (Amus College).

Coaching, refereeing/umpiring and media training for volleyball, netball, handball, athletics and basketball will be conducted at Kibuli SS between 10th to 16th December 2022.

In conclusion, Mr Justus Mugisha, USSSA President expressed his appreciation to federations for agreeing to be apart of this project.

‘The project will benefit both federations but, most importantly the sports for example in 15 years to come the students will have finished school and will be on positions of authority hence bringing sponsorships to the different sports’

‘The course is delivered and certified by federations and partially facilitated by the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports.’
