




Cricket: Hosts Sacred Heart Face Uphill Battle After Two Defeats to Light Secondary School
Hosts Sacred Heart Secondary School suffered two defeats to Light Secondary School at the USSSA Ball Games II. The championship will be decided by the first team to register three victories in the four-match series.
The two sides are no strangers to each other, having met several times previously in tournaments organized by Cricket Uganda.
“It has been a while since we last played a game, since the Girls’ Cricket Week organized by Cricket Uganda in May. Our batting today was below par, but we hope to do a better job in the remaining matches,” said Amono Ritah, captain of Sacred Heart SS, Gulu.
Game One
After winning the toss, Sacred Heart SS elected to bat first.
Sacred Heart SS: 93/9 (20 overs)
Light SS: 94/4 (10.1 overs)
Result: Light Secondary School won by six wickets.
For Sacred Heart, Alanyo Angel Michelle top-scored with 23 runs off 32 balls before being run out by Mercy K in the 14th over. Anek Patricia Ambrose remained unbeaten on 19 off 26 deliveries.
Light SS comfortably chased down the target, thanks to Kulume Ruth, who struck a fluent 35 runs from 25 balls, including six boundaries.
Player of the Match: Tino Sarah (Light SS), whose outstanding bowling figures of 4 overs, 1 maiden, 2 wickets for 14 runs, including 18 dot balls, set up the victory.
Game Two
Light SS won the toss and opted to bat first.
Light SS: 86/3 (20 overs)
Sacred Heart SS: 44/8 (17 overs)
Result: Light Secondary School won by 39 runs.
Sacred Heart struggled in their chase, managing only 44 runs before finishing on 8 wickets down after 17 overs.

What’s Next?
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday, 15 July, at St. Joseph’s College Layibi, with Sacred Heart needing victories to keep their title hopes alive.
In the boys’ competition, Busoga College Mwiri are one win away from being crowned champions and will face Ngora High School on 14 July.
