Uganda settles for silver, $200,000 prize money after slip to Senegal in final

Uganda settles for silver, $200,000 prize money after slip to Senegal in final | 2026 CAF African Schools Football Championship

CAF African Schools Football Championship 2026 (U-15):

Finals:

Boys: Uganda 0 (4) – 0 (5) Senegal

Girls: Ghana 0 (9) – 0 (8) Burkina Faso

Uganda took silver and earned $200,000 prize after playing second fiddle to Senegal in the 2026 CAF African schools football championship.

The boys’ final witnessed Senegal overcome a spirited Uganda 5-4 in post-match penalties after normal time at the Ngoni stadium in Norton, Zimbabwe had ended goal-less.

The finale was also watched by the CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and other dignitaries on Friday afternoon.

Shakur Ngobi watched in disbelief when he tapped over from close range after being set up by play-maker Owen Mukisa in arguably the game’s best chance.

Senegal’s best moment fell to Mamadou whose half volley was easily stopped by the Ugandan goalkeeper Imran Ssebbale, who was later replaced by Hamidu Kasumba who completed the game and took part in the shoot-out.

Bashir Edema, Shafic Kitimbo, Frank Musisi and Akram Ssenyonga all scored their kicks for Uganda with only Livingstone Kulata denied during the tense shoot-out.

“I am feeling a bit disappointed but I want to thank my players for the fight, the attitude they have showed despite losing the championship. However they have lost to one of the best countries as regards youth structures who have turned up for the past three editions”. Hassan Zzungu Head coach, team Uganda.

Meanwhile, Ghana successfully defended the girls’ title; winning 9-8 in a lengthy shoot out over Burkina Faso after normal time was also goal-less.

Prize money:

The two winning countries; Senegal and Ghana earn $ 300,000 (at least Ug.Shs 1.1 billion) each.

The two losing finalists Uganda and Burkina Faso take home $200,000 (at least Ug.Shs 738M) each.

Each of the bronze medalists will earn $150,000 (at least Ug.Shs 554M).
