Cricket made its competitive debut at the 2026 FEASSA Games in Morogoro, Tanzania, with Ugandan representatives Sacred Heart SS Gulu and Busoga College Mwiri both suffering defeats on the opening day.
In the girls’ match, Morogoro defeated Sacred Heart SS Gulu by four wickets, chasing down Sacred Heart’s 78 all out in 18.3 overs with 80/6 in 14.3 overs. Lightness Yona top-scored for Morogoro with 29 off 21 balls.
In the boys’ contest, Masechu beat Busoga College Mwiri by 24 runs after posting 151/6 in 20 overs. Mwiri were bowled out for 127 in 18.1 overs, with Okoth Joel scoring 35 off 29 balls and Luyuyo Isabirye adding 20 off 24.
Tanzania’s bowlers dominated the Mwiri innings, with Alfred Daniel taking 4 wickets for Masechu in 3.1 overs, while teammate Johnson David also claimed four wickets in four overs.
Cricket’s inclusion marks another milestone for FEASSA. The sport was previously featured only as a demonstration sport at the 2025 Games in Kakamega, Kenya, where Uganda was represented by Ntare School and Sacred Heart SS Gulu.
This year, Uganda has two cricket representatives: Busoga College Mwiri in the boys’ competition and Sacred Heart SS Gulu in the girls’ competition.
The tournament features five teams in total, with Kenya and Tanzania each fielding two sides per gender while Uganda has one representative in each category.
Both Ugandan sides will have a rest day on Saturday and Sunday (Opening Ceremony).Busoga College Mwiri will face Tanzania’s Gairo on Monday 17th August while Scared Heart will face Namasoli from Kenya thereafter.
