USSSA Holds First Preparatory Meeting Ahead of the 23rd FEASSA Games
The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) on 22nd July 2026 held the first preparatory meeting ahead of Uganda’s participation in the 23rd Edition of the Federation of East Africa School Sports Association (FEASSA) Games. The meeting took place at the USSSA Offices in Old Kampala.
The meeting brought together games teachers and representatives from schools that qualified to represent Uganda at the regional championship. It was chaired by USSSA President Justus Mugisha and was also addressed by Rev. Dr. Canon Duncans Mugumya, Commissioner for the Department of Physical Education and Sports at the Ministry of Education and Sports.
The meeting focused on preparations for the championship, which will be hosted in Morogoro, Tanzania, from 12th to 23rd August 2026.
Competition Programme
The official programme for the Games is as follows:
12th August 2026: Arrival of participating teams.
13th–22nd August 2026: Competition period.
23rd August 2026: Departure of teams.
Team Uganda will be officially flagged off on 8th August 2026 before departing for Tanzania.
Disciplines
The 23rd FEASSA Games will feature competitions in the following disciplines:
Football,Volleyball,Handball,Hockey,Athletics,Badminton,Lawn Tennis,Table Tennis,Swimming,Basketball 3×3,Basketball 5×5,Rugby Sevens,Rugby 15s,Chess,Scrabble,Beach Soccer,Beach Volleyball,Lacrosse,Netball,Cricket and Cross Country
Team Entry Quotas
Member countries were informed of the participation slots for this year’s championship:
Host nation Tanzania will field a maximum of four teams per event.
Other member countries will field a maximum of two teams per event, except in Hockey, Rugby and Netball, where up to three teams are permitted.
Countries with defending champions are entitled to field one additional team in that specific event, except in Athletics and Swimming.
Any country wishing to increase its quota must submit a formal request to the FEASSA Secretary General no later than 25th July 2026.
Preparatory Roadmap
The meeting adopted the following roadmap towards the Games:
22nd July: First preparatory meeting and confirmation of teams.
23rd July: Replacement of teams.
23rd–31st July: Final payments and clearance.
4th August: Second FEASSA Preparatory Meeting.
4th August: Submission of team lists, vehicle details and officials.
5th August: FEASSA draws for all member countries.
6th August: Distribution of team apparel, uniforms and kits.
8th August: Official flag-off of Team Uganda.
9th August: Departure from Kampala via Masaka to the Mutukula Border.
10th August: Stopover in Kahama, Tanzania.
11th August: Arrival in Morogoro.
13th August: Official opening and commencement of competitions.
23rd August: Departure from Morogoro.
Travel Requirements
All participating schools and officials were reminded to ensure the following documents are available before departure:
Passport or Travel Permit (UGX 20,000 where applicable).
Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate.
Valid School Identity Card.
Two passport-size photographs with names written on the reverse (for participants without passports).
Valid Driving Permit for drivers.
Third-party insurance for all vehicles.
Completed medical forms.
Signed consent letters.
Accreditation cards.
Official school letter listing all participants and officials travelling.
Original vehicle logbooks.
All vehicles must have a fire extinguisher, reflector and first Aid kit.
Team Conduct
The meeting emphasized the importance of discipline and professionalism throughout the championship. Schools were urged to:
Promote unity among Team Uganda delegations.
Respect authority and leadership.
Ensure that only eligible students participate.
Avoid including unauthorized individuals on official teams.
Attend all official functions, including the flag-off, opening ceremony and closing ceremony.
Include all accredited support personnel, including team doctors, assistant coaches, matrons, drivers and other officials.
Team Apparel
The Ministry of Education and Sports, through USSSA, will provide every participant with:
- One pair of tracksuits.
- Home and away competition uniforms.
- One high-quality official T-shirt for athletes and officials.
The meeting also noted that details regarding the number of participants and the financial obligations for each school are contained in the official FEASSA invitation letter.
USSSA called upon all qualified schools to strictly adhere to the agreed timelines and requirements to ensure Team Uganda is adequately prepared to compete successfully at the 23rd FEASSA Games in Morogoro, Tanzania.
