Kakungulu, Mbarara renew rivalry in hockey semis

Mbarara High School stunned Kakungulu Memorial in the boys’ hockey final at last year’s Uganda Secondary School Sports Association Ball Games I in Bukedea.
Now the two sides meet again on Wednesday in the semifinals of the 2026 Games at Namilyango College.
Mbarara beat St. Charles Lwanga Kasasa 2-0 in the quarters while Kakungulu needed a last minute penalty corner to see off Kyaddondo SS 1-0.
The other semifinal will see the free-scoring Ntare School battle the defensive stalwarts King’s College Budo.
Ntare beat hosts Namilyango College 3-0 while Budo held St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) to a 0-0 draw before eliminating them 4-3 on penalties.
Meanwhile for girls’ hockey, Mt. St. Mary’s Namagunga have a breakfast date with Gayaza High School before Kakungulu Memorial battle Sacred Heart Mushanga.
Back to the boys, Namilyango ended the day by beating SMACK 2-1 in the 5th to 8th playoffs while Kyaddondo beat Kasasa 3-0.
Namilyango will battle Kyaddondo for 5th place as SMACK and Kasasa battle for 7th place on Wednesday.
